With the summer heatwaves approaching, it’s time to ditch the heavy throws, declutter our homes, and make our living environment as cozy and comfortable as possible. It might seem like a difficult task, especially because the summers can be so difficult to bear, but with a bit of redecorating, and some smart tech at your disposal, you can make this summer season a chill, rewarding experience when you’re home.

What’s best, you don’t need to break the proverbial bank to bring a summer-friendly interior to life. All you need is to make some aesthetic changes and perhaps bring in some functional features to keep the space cool. Let’s take a look at some great decorating tips that will inspire you to organize your own home makeover just in time for the sizzling summer heats.

Time to Declutter Your Home

First and foremost, it’s time to get rid of the things you think you need, but you actually don’t. Don’t worry, stuff can pile up in your home in between summers, and most of us will hold on to things we definitely no longer need without ever realizing that it’s hindering our movement, affecting our mood, and just making life more stressful. You want to have a fun, stress-free summer season, so the time has come to declutter your home room by room.

You can start by throwing out the things that are in your field of view, but then you want to delve deeper and start decluttering the closets, drawers and cabinetry, and all the little nooks and crannies in your home where clutter tends to reside. While you’re at it, don’t you think it’s time to declutter your tech as well? Surely you no longer need fifteen different USB 2.0 cables or a charger for your old mp3 player. These things get stuffed into drawers and while you might have forgotten about them until now, take the time to get rid of them for good.

Beat the Heat With Smart Tech

To prep your home for the sizzling summer heat, you should once again turn to technology and the various tools and devices that you can use to keep the space perfectly chill. For example, with a Nest temperature sensor, you can tailor the temperature in every room just right automatically, or you can do it yourself within the app without having to get off the couch.

If you’re not home, no problem, because you can use the app to set the temperature just right for when you arrive, preventing any unnecessary energy waste while you’re away. Such a smart heating and cooling solution can help you minimize your bills as well, and you can even monitor the energy usage so that you can amp it up or cut back with ease.

Choose the Perfect Summer Rugs

You might think that you need to strip the floors to the bare essentials during summer, but that’s exactly the opposite of what you should do. Naked floors heat up quickly and different materials can be very hard on your feet, making it difficult to walk on. This can make it difficult to enjoy your living environment during those warm summer months, which is why you actually want to introduce the right kind of rug in every room.

You’re no interior decorator, most likely, and you might have a hard time picking the right rug for the summer seasons, and here’s where the right tech can lend a helping hand once more. A great example of innovation in this field comes from the popular Miss Amara rug brand with its online rug styler, which helps you style your home with the perfect rug according to your needs and preferences, but also any functional goals you might have.

If you want a beautiful rug that’s lighter on the feet and evokes that seaside vibe, a digital rug styler can help you find the perfect one.

Let the Light Flow Freely Through the Space

When summer finally comes, you want to let plenty of light saturate the space, and you want the natural light to flow freely through the interior. It’s all about inspiring that beach summer house look and feel, like the ocean is right outside your door. To achieve that look, you need plenty of sunlight, and you can let it permeate the space with light neutral curtains, mirrors, and French doors.

Place mirrors strategically throughout your home to let the light reflect off the surface and saturate those dark corners. In the evening, though, you can inspire that sunset vibe with smart, programmable LED lights that will cast a warm glow and set the mood just right every time.

Go For a Biophilic Design

Lastly, summer is the perfect time to bring nature into your home, and you can do this by introducing a biophilic design. Bringing nature into your living environment is perfect for creating a balance between home décor and family life, because it creates a peaceful setting that will benefit the whole family.

If you’re not versed in keeping plants alive for long (don’t worry, you’re not alone), then you can let tech help you here as well. You can find smart plant pots nowadays that will tell how the plant is “feeling,” whether it needs more or less sunlight, when you should water it and how much, and more.

Over to You

As the summer approaches, the time is right to give your home a simple, yet impactful makeover. Consider these tips that will help you create a cool and comfortable living space, and be sure to use the right home tech to enjoy your indoor time as much as possible.
