In most households, the kitchen is the heart and hearth of the home so when the time comes to remodel it, it’s imperative you remain guided by your style and convenience. Preparing delicious meals for your family takes both skill and inspiration so the overall feel and vibe of the space play a vital role. So, incorporating organic elements into your kitchen space can pay big dividends.

If you lean towards a more contemporary style but you still want nature to be present in your design, the following tips can be very helpful in your kitchen remodel project.

Decor Choices

The first decision you should make regards the choice of your color palette. Nature abounds in color and to create a pleasant and soothing ambience go with soft, earthy colors for your walls, such as muted powder or flesh pink, beige, grey, or off-white. These can be quite effective decor choices in the kitchen.

To avoid a bland and dull food preparation space, choose rich colors. These can include brown, bronze, dark green, yellow, rusty red, or gold for details such as the backsplash, marble countertop, cushions in the breakfast nook, and metallic elements for your light fixtures and faucets.

Plants and Greenery

The quickest way to incorporate nature and organic elements into your kitchen is to bring in greenery and plants. Fresh and fragrant flowers in a vase on your table will always uplift the atmosphere and potted plants with succulents and a tiny herb garden can help transform any dull space into a vibrant oasis.

Organic Materials

Among the suggestions for an organic kitchen are natural wood charcuterie boards, ideal for serving a variety of foods. Image: Elle Hughes from Pexels.

Wood is probably the most popular and favorite natural material that has great versatility and can easily be incorporated into any space, especially kitchen. You can opt for a rawer cabinet finish but that’s not the only place to have wood. Consider buying an acacia table for your eat-in section and rustic mis-matched wooden chairs or even rattan dining chairs. Natural wood furniture is always in trend, it just depends on what lines and finishes you prefer.

Wood can be implemented in many other details in the kitchen, like bamboo placemats and serving bowls, various kitchen utensils, and cutting boards. You can find a unique charcuterie board for sale that will not only be a cutting board and a serving piece, but also a true work of art. A one-of-a-kind handcrafted hardwood board will blend in with the natural vibe of your kitchen décor and give you the best of both worlds—a useful and practical tool and a beautiful decorative piece.

Whenever you host a gathering, whether it’s a cocktail party or a romantic dinner for two, you’ll have a showstopper on your hands and an instant centerpiece on your table. It will be ideal for offering a lovely display of appetizers, cheeses, dried fruits, nuts, crackers, olives and home-grown herbs.

Stone is another widely popular natural material that can be incorporated in your walls, backsplash, and as ornaments in your kitchen. Make a unique arrangement of various pebbles, rocks and stones in a glass or wooden bowl that you can place on the table or your kitchen island or, take it a bit further and order a stone sink and countertop that will blend seamlessly with the natural colors you have already selected for your cabinets and walls.

Natural Light

No matter how much artificial lighting you have, it can’t compare to natural light coming in through your kitchen window. This daylighting will uplift the room, make it come alive, enhance all the colors and décor and emphasize the existing natural materials you have incorporated into your design.

Make the most out your windows and make sure they aren’t obstructed by heavy treatments. If you need to protect your privacy, install subtle shades and curtains of natural, sheer fabric. Keep the windows open whenever the weather allows it and enjoy the framed look of natural scenery it offers. If there’s room in your budget, install skylights and solar light tubes.

Get Cooking in Natural Style

Whatever style you’re going for, urban, modern or rustic, by incorporating natural elements into your kitchen design will give your home an organic appeal and create an atmosphere of comfort and serenity. From the choice of your color palette and natural materials to bringing in plants and tons of natural light, making your kitchen feel organic and easy on the eyes won’t be difficult if you know what you like and what goal you’re trying to achieve.
