In synchronization with product announcements from new parent company Amazon, smart doorbell pioneer Ring brought its own news to the day in the form of the new Ring Stick Up Cam.

Available in wired, battery, and solar versions, Ring will offer consumers a smart camera that can be used outdoors like its other cams—and for the first time—a cam that can be used indoors. That will likely put them in direct competition with Nest and its Nest Cam Indoor, Nest Cam Outdoor, and Nest Cam IQ products.

As an early byproduct of its child relationship with retail juggernaut Amazon, the new Ring Stick Up Cams can be controlled with the Amazon Alexa voice assistant and Echo devices. In the case of the just-announced Echo Show second generation, the command “Alexa, show me my Stick Up Cam” can display a live video feed on the device’s screen. As all of the new cams have two-way audio capability, one could carry on a hands-free conversation with a visitor from the comfort of an armchair.

Three Variations

All three versions of the new Stick Up Cam have 1080P HD video feeds, motion-activated sensors, on-board sirens, and can be used either indoors or outdoors. And homeowners can choose from black or white to blend in or contrast with the surrounding decor or surfaces where the camera resides. These cameras are rather diminutive as well, measuring less than 4-in. tall including the bracket.

The Stick Up Cam Plug-In gets its power through a power cable connection, and connects to the home network through Wi-Fi.

The Stick Up Cam Battery can be used indoors or out and is equipped with a rechargeable and removable battery pack. Image: Ring.

The Stick Up Cam Battery is fitted with a removable and rechargeable battery pack, and connects over Wi-Fi only.

Packaged with a separate solar panel as its power source, the Stick Up Cam Solar also has an onboard rechargeable battery pack, so can be used inside sans solar panel.

Mounting Optional

All three of the cams can be placed on any available surface, or attached to a wall, ceiling, or soffit with an included mounting kit. They can also integrate with the Ring Alarm and Alarm Security Kit, as well as other Ring cams through the Ring app.
