Smart water pioneer Phyn has announced they are moving upmarket with the debut of the Phyn XL 1.5″ and Phyn XL 2″ at CES 2020. Phyn, the makers of the Phyn Plus intelligent water monitor launched at CES 2018, are expanding their offerings beyond standard residential installations into larger custom homes, new construction, and light commercial properties. By upsizing their technology to support larger main water supply lines up to 2 in. diameter sizes, they intend to bridge their machine learning and water sensing technology into the broader market, while retaining integration with the Phyn app and their Phyn Dashboard web portal for larger systems.

“Today, water conservation and sustainability are a growing concern for everyone, especially property owners as it can directly impact budgets and bottom lines,” said Ryan Kim, CEO of Phyn, on the eve of CES 2020 . “At Phyn, we are on a mission to provide simple, intuitive tools that protect every type of property against water damage. The addition of Phyn XL 1.5” and XL 2” to our existing product line are a clear next step in our company’s dedication to providing best-in-class products for anyone who proactively seeks to monitor their water consumption and protect their investment.”

Bookending the Low and High End of Smart Water

In tandem with the DIY-capable Phyn Smart Water Assistant and these new professional products for the higher end of the market, Phyn has effectively bookended a family of intelligent water conservation products around their original, professionally-installed Phyn Plus. Whereas the $299 Phyn Smart Water Assistant provides whole-house leak detection and monitoring from an under-sink installation, the $699 Phyn Plus goes a step beyond in providing automated shutoff of the main water in the event of leak detection. In the case of the Phyn XL 1.5″ and Phyn XL 2″ monitors, they will also get the full complement of Phyn water tracking and conservation features, while the automated shutoff valve will be offered as an option when they begin shipping in summer 2020.

Designed to be compatible with all main water pipe sizes below 1.5 in., the new Phyn XL 1.5″ is aimed at larger residential installations. It offers both Wi-Fi and Ethernet network connectivity options. Standard pipe fittings at either end of the module enable fitting into the main inbound line of standard water systems.

Phyn XL 2″

Intended for light commercial properties including restaurants, retail, banks, and similar buildings, the Phyn XL 2″ is compatible with all pipe sizes below 2 in. It also has Wi-Fi and Ethernet network connectivity options. In the same fashion as its smaller 1.5-in. brother, the Phyn XL 2″ can work with main water line sizes below its maximum size by using a standard reducer coupling.

During the development process for the new Phyn XL systems, the company worked with a number of pilot customers. Since the proven Phyn Plus technology measures changes in water pressure 240 times a second, they can rapidly detect leaks while also diagnosing plumbing issues and giving non-stop monitoring of building-wide water use. For example, in Sante Fe, New Mexico, several local restaurants were outfitted with Phyn devices and saw up to 25% in savings on their water bills.
