Smart lock maker August Home and pet care provider Wag! have teamed up to make pets left home alone safer and happier. In addition to special package deals on the August Smart Lock Pro, the companies have curated some suggestions on making pet care safer and easier while you’re away.

Daytime Visits, Entirely Keyless

Your pet can benefit greatly from a daytime visit, and in many cases that’s an essential activity. When you can’t personally get away from work to see your pet, a daytime visit can be instantly scheduled through the Wag! app or website, and a qualified caregiver can drop in to check in on your pet.

Instead of leaving a key under the door mat, consider upgrading your front door with a smart lock. By installing the specially-priced August Wi-Fi Smart Lock with Smart Keypad, the Wag! caregiver can be provided secure access through the August app or by typing a PIN code on the August Smart Keypad.

While You’re Away, Leave Toys for Play

Pet experts say the best way to keep your pets (particularly dogs) from going stir crazy and getting into trouble while the humans are away is to smartly introduce them to toys. By carefully introducing new toys to your pet’s daily routine, they can learn to associate play time and treat time with your absence, making their home alone time less stressful with a reduction in anxiety.

Tailor a Pet Sanctuary

Instead of having to cage your pet while you’re away, take time to make the home a safer sanctuary so they are more free to roam. Begin by pooch-proofing your place, ensuring the trash can is secured, plants are put away or placed on high shelves, and generally checking to be sure there are no accidents waiting to happen.

We’ve seen first hand how many dogs love a dedicated pooch bed. By adding their favorite toys and blankets to the bed, they will naturally and safely retreat to their safe place when they tire of play. Don’t forget the chew toys.

Safer and Smarter

Your pet is unabashedly an integral part of the family. It makes sense to approach their home alone time with careful thought and prep. They’ll undoubtedly award you with affection the moment you return home.
